Job Summary:

In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. Your oversight will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-SM2

Major Responsibilities:

On a medium to large (PFE Tier I - <$250m) job, performs the duties of a lead engineer in either an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or as a Project Field Engineer, coordinating all activities related to the operation of assigned operating section.
Leadership/Supervision:

  • Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback 
  • Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work.

Work Planning & Packaging:

  • Coordinates with design on constructability issues.  

Material Management:

  • Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.  

Quantities:

  • Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.  

Safety / Quality Control:

  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented, adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

System Turnover Coordinator:  
For Direct Hire: 

  • Possesses responsibility for coordinating between Construction and Startup to ensure the various system walkdowns are performed, interfacing with the Startup Specialist as required to support component/system turnover and assuming responsibility (as required) for area turnover coordination as determined by the PFE.

STR / Subcontract Coordinator:

  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans, 
  • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant  work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Owns field quality execution and assurance.
  • Deep knowledge of project specs, codes, ITPs, and Bechtel quality systems; ensures right-first-time installation across disciplines.
  • Leads quality planning and readiness.
  • Integrates quality requirements into AWP and field execution; verifies inspection points, hold points, and documentation are ready before work starts.
  • Manages inspections and nonconformance.
  • Coordinates field inspections, reviews and dispositions NCRs, drives corrective actions, and prevents repeat issues.
  • Controls quality data and turnover.
  • Ensures accurate records, test results, and as-builts; supports system completions and clean handover to commissioning and the client.
  • Acts as quality problem-solver and leader.
  • Coaches field engineers, superintendents, and craft on standards and expectations; escalates systemic risks early.
