Job summary

About the Position: This position serves as a foreman with delegated authority for the immediate execution of maintenance and operations plans for the accomplishment of functions involved in breakwater maintenance functions, dredge material placement area maintenance, and general floating plant maintenance activities.

Major duties

Plan for the accomplishment of long-range assignments of work within schedules coordinated by higher authority. Serve as lead foreman on various hired labor projects. Maintain adequate supply of tools, equipment, and supplies. Accomplish supervisory duties in accordance with the provisions of the EEO and Affirmative Action Program/Plan. Seeks means for improving operations, simplifying methods and reducing cost. Follows up and keeps supervisors informed on delayed delivery of materials and supplies, equipment repairs, and other conditions slowing up work. Incumbent is required to give considerable attention to scheduling and planning work operations. Spot-checks to see that instructions are followed and takes corrective action as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an R & H CONSTRUCTION MAINT FOREMAN without more than normal supervision. ???????I have the ability to perform common tasks associated with supervision of supporting maintenance and repair actives, working alongside, with, or directly for various project office work groups, recommending materials, supplies, and equipment repairs. I am able to operate small boats, vehicles, construction equipment and power tools. I work under normal leadership and obverse tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly preformed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability to Plan and Organize Work Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Decision Making PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent routinely lifts and carries parts and equipment weighing over 50pounds. Moderate to brief periods of heavy effort is required during general maintenance work. Coordination of hands, eyes, body and legs is needed to work safely on wet, icy, and moving decks, especially when anchored in exposed location during storms. Employee is required to sit and stand for long periods of time in a confined area while operating boats. Extreme mental concentration and moderate physical effort is required to operate motor vehicles towing vessels, as well as the vessels themselves, in tight conditions with oversized loads. Incumbent is constantly exposed to noise, vibrations, and varying degrees of physical jolting depending on road conditions as well as see and wave activity. Heavy physical effort is required when working on rubble mound breakwater structures, moving around large, uneven, slippery armor stone surfaces. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is split between indoor and outdoor settings, with outdoor work being approximately 75%. Routine work outdoors includes dangers of slipping and falling overboard. Work is performed in all types of weather to include heavy rain, dense fog, sleet, and snow. There is exposure to traffic hazards, especially during foggy weather and at night. When making repairs and performing maintenance, is exposed to scalds, chemical burns, electrical shocks, burns, falls, and other possible injuries due to working around moving machinery and in cramped quarters in extreme heat and cold conditions at times. Also exposed to insect and wildlife hazards when working on maintenance activities associated with rubble mound breakwaters and other navigation structures. Incumbent must wear protective gear as the s the situation requires, such as coveralls, rubber boots, gloves, steel-toed boots, goggles, earmuffs, respirator, etc. Work also requires use of fall protection and or prevention methods working from heights up
