Job summary
About the Position: You will serve as the Navigation Divisions key advisor on issues involving the operations and maintenance of the District's floating plant and facilities. As Physical Support Manager of the Navigation Division, is primarily responsible for the operation and maintenance of all floating plants. Works under the very general direction of the Chief, Navigation Division.
Major duties
May serve as the deputy to chief, Navigation Division. Coordinate scheduling of Portland District hopper dredges for project in other districts. Serves as a member of the West Coast Hopper Dredge Planning committee. Direct preparation of detailed budget, schedule, initial prioritization of items, and execution of the floating plant work. Make periodic inspection of field activities for compliance with dredging orders, and plans. Direct studies, investigations, and procurement to utilize state of art methods and equipment to continually improve management of floating plants. Direct the operation of repair shops and boatyards used to perform shop and field repair of plant and equipment. Supervise engineering of floating plant including the planning, design, cost estimating and the contract administration in connection with major repairs, modification and improvement. Conduct personnel administration through subordinate supervisors. Assign work and participate in selection committees for placement and promotion of employees to subordinate supervisory positions. Assist in the development of the preparation of plans for dredging maintenance program for the floating plant.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13 or above). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
