Job summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Incumbent participates in conducting the enforcement program of Federal, State, and installation fish and wildlife regulations.

Major duties

You will ensure physical security measures are in effect in remote areas of the installation for the protection of Government property, endangered or threatened species, and cultural / archeological protected / sensitive sites. You will conduct community relations activities, briefings, tours and other functions, which enhance appreciation of the wildlife and promotes a positive attitude and public awareness of fish and game laws and regulations. You will maintain a working relationship and liaison with the local State and the U.S. Department of the Interior (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) in studies of endangered wildlife species and threatened populations. You will conduct investigations, felony and misdemeanor, into violations of Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws which involve a wide range of law enforcement activities.

Qualification

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property which includes detecting and denying unauthorized access to restricted/closed range areas, natural resources, cultural and/or archeological sites; interviewing witnesses and collecting or preserving evidence in support of legal charges related to protection of endangered or threatened species, hunting, and/or unauthorized access to sensitive sites; and conducting short and long-term investigations into felony and misdemeanor violations of Federal wildlife and environmental laws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. NOTE: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers. The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect. Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.
