Job summary

You will serve as a Pipefitter Leader in the Pipe Shop (Code 960) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) at NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major duties

You will coordinate work while assuring proper inter-trade and inter-shop coordination. You will provide on the job training for workers under your leadership, correct improper pipefitter work methods, ensure assigned work procedures/processes are being followed. You will ensure safe work practices and good housekeeping. You will ensure workers under your leadership have the necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, tools, etc. to perform their work operations.

Qualification

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: Ability to perform work with various components, tanks, and systems associated with naval submarines. Ability to demonstrate a broad knowledge of piping systems and equipment. Ability to comprehend and demonstrate operational theory, check-out procedures, and skilled in performing pipefitting. Ability to provide direction with trade theory and techniques in order to lead journeyman mechanics.
