The mission of the 47th Medical Group at Laughlin Air Force Base is to support the 47th Flying Training Wing’s medical, dental and aeromedical needs in support of Laughlin’s Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training mission. The medical group is responsible for the health care of more than 3,400 Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries and ensuring the medical readiness mission for wartime and worldwide contingencies.

About the Position: Serve as a Health Technician (Occupational) within the Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay. Responsible for providing comprehensive occupational health services to eligible beneficiaries. Access to Medical and Dental Care in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is extremely limited. Major duties

Conduct patient screening to obtain and review medical and/or occupation history. Evaluate patients for referral to nurse or physician. Determine requirements for ancillary testing such as laboratory studies, x-rays, immunizations, etc. Maintain medical records in accordance with applicable directives. Counsel patients in regard to test results, health promotion topics, and workplace health hazards. Perform alternate worksite visits in order to become familiar with work processes with particular relation to the stressors of the job which include chemical, biological, and physical properties. Document patient encounter information and appropriate encounter codes in the electronic health record per current instructions and coding guidelines. Provide administrative support such as scheduling appointments, ordering and receiving supplies and equipment, patient reception and answering telephones, etc.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting patient screening such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms; documenting pertinent data in a patient's medical record; facilitating the safe and effective operation of medical equipment; and scheduling patient appointments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
