The medical group is responsible for the health care of more than 3,400 Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries and ensuring the medical readiness mission for wartime and worldwide contingencies.
Job summary
About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center with the Director of Surgery, Department of Rehabilitation in Bethesda, Maryland. The duty hours are Monday -Friday 0730-1600. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Major duties
Monitor and assist in the preparation of the annual budget, determining whether requests for funds and expenditures are proper, justified, and timely. Submit travel vouchers and reports within the Defense Travel System system. Monitor and coordinate personnel matters (e.g. recruitment and placement actions, removal and suspension actions, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) complaints, denial of within grade actions, performance management, etc.). Identify problems with health care processes and recommend alternatives to improve processes, identifying and reporting any quality improvement issues. Monitor the Military Healthcare System (MHS) for trends, analysis, and comparisons, gather and interpret data, making recommendations to leadership on findings that may affect productivity, access, and quality of Service. Assists leadership in achieving clinic goals regarding access, volume, patient demand, patient safety, staffing and GME. Manage appointment standardization, templates, patient access, and provider schedule management. Coordinate and consult with department supervisors on program administrative matters. Monitor various statistical and demographic data, including charts, graphs, and reports (e.g., case log reports, ambulatory data system reports, customer surveys). Monitor Joint Commission and required inspections compliance. Supervise daily administrative functioning and provides direct monitoring of employee's performance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coordinating and/or consulting with leadership on program administrative matters; utilizing various databases and/or healthcare systems (e.g. GENISIS or FMIS). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
