Job summary

You will serve as a HEALTH PHYSICIST in the Radiation Health Division of PSNS and IMF. The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Major duties

You will provide training for professional Health Physicist personnel. You will provide consultation to personnel in other shipyard departments and offices concerning Radiation Health Programs. You will develop and recommend measures or changes in procedures to cause compliance. You will assist in the inspection and surveillance of operations performed by other organizations to determine compliance with requirements promulgated by the shipyard. You will perform basic cleaning and adjusting of radiation health equipment. You will perform data collection, data entry and review. You will evaluate basic radiation survey data to determine radiation hazards and compliance with established radiation exposure requirements.

Qualification

Qualifications for GS-11: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Health Physicist analyzing radiological control processes to assess and investigate radiological issues to ensure radiological controls and prevent work stoppages. Qualifications for GS-09: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Health Physicist assisting in analyzing radiological control processes to assess and investigate radiological issues to ensure radiological controls and prevent work stoppages. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual. Applicants must possess: A bachelor's degree or higher in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus OR A combination of education and experience with courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education OR Certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above.
