Job summary
You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the Commander, Navy Installations Command, Department of Navy of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.
Major duties
You will instruct training classes, lectures, and demonstrations on fire protection and prevention. You will inspect equipment (e.g., fire extinguisher, sprinkler systems, exits) to verify they are fully operational and meet regulatory requirements. You will perform structural firefighting and rescue duties in buildings, housing units, or confined spaces to eliminate and control fires. You will monitor occupational safety and health programs within a fire division. You will present situational and classroom training at installation fire prevention activities. You will oversee firefighting training areas (e.g., live fire, mobile or fixed training devices inspections, testing, certification and maintenance programs) for an organization.
Qualification
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing training for all areas of Fire and Emergency Services (i.e. structural firefighting, shipboard firefighting, aircraft firefighting, wildland firefighting, hazardous materials, and emergency medical care); 2) Conducting inspections to ensure training objectives are being accomplished; 3) Ensuring safety guidelines are being implemented across all fire stations; 4) Identifying safety deficiencies and/or recommending corrective action. Additional Information (Continued): This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer I & II Fire Instructor I & II Fire Inspector I & II Airport Firefighter HAZMAT Incident Commander These certifications must have been awarded by National Registry, DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications, you will be rated ineligible. Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management. The employee is required to work a 60-hour week, 9hours each workday with one overnight 24-hour shift, Subject to mandatory overtime and recall. Physical Demands: Duties are largely sedentary and conducted in an office or classroom environment. A portion of duties will be performed under simulated emergency situations for training purposes or under actual emergency situation in the vent the incumbent is acting in an operations supervisory capacity. The incumbent must possess the ability to lift and move heavy objects, such as charged fire hoses, fire extinguishers, equipment, and incapacitated persons. Must be able to wear protective clothing, such as firefighter ensembles weighing 50-60 pounds. Climbs ladder and works at various heights. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The incumbent is required to respond to working fires and related emergencies to evaluate effectiveness of the overall training program and to assist as required. Demonstrate tasks and function necessary in the protection of life and property to firefighter, auxiliary fire party personnel and other assigned. must be physically and mentally qualified to perform all firefighting and related hazardous duties of the position. Work Environment: The work is principally sedentary and performed in office or classroom environments. Because of the location of activities that fall under the direction of the incumbent, frequent travel may be required. In conjunction with the performance of required training and operational supervisor duties, the incumbent will be exposed to out-of-control fires, HAZMAT spills, or possible explosions. May suffer from burns, dehydration, and other effects of heat; smoke inhalation, heavy protective clothing, falling materials, or explosions. Subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HAZMAT and high noise levels. May deal with victims in emergency situations that may be in varying stages of fright, panic, injury and shock. There may be hazards while operating or riding fire trucks at high speeds under adverse conditions. The employee may be required to work outside in all types of weather conditions. The incumbent must possess the ability to move charges fire hoses, fire extinguishers and other equipment. Must be able to wear protective clothing, such as firefighter ensembles weighing 50-60 pounds. Climbing ladders and works at various heights. Incumbent must be competent in the use of the following equipment: vehicle, cellular telephone, mobile radio, pager, personal computer, calculator, telephone, tape recorder, Fire and EMA equipment and apparatus and audio visual training aids.
