Job summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) support provider in the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM). Provides appropriate on scene life support and operates ambulance. This is a Term position not to exceed 1 year and 1 day and position may be extended or made permanent.

Major duties

Conducts a complete examination of patients to determine nature, extent, and seriousness of various conditions and searches for medical alert symbols. Prioritizes treatments for patients having multiple problems and employs a variety established emergency medicine techniques, methods, and equipment to the appropriate medical facility. When operating an emergency or patient transport vehicle, selects the most efficient route to and from the site of the emergency considering traffic patterns, health facility locations, etc. Decontaminates the vehicle in accordance with Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) standards. Works in the Emergency Department to provide patient care within the scope of practice of EMT training and experience. Obtains information from patients required to check-in for treatment such as chief complaint and medical history. Takes, records, and monitors patient’s baseline vital signs including temperature, blood pressure and pulse.

Qualification

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; (2) conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, AND (3) operating a patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
