Job summary

You will serve as a BLOCKER AND BRACER in the DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT OFFICE of MARINE CORPS BASE.

Major duties

You will determine what position on the railcar or truck the item will be loaded to protect the weight distribution requirements among the conveyance’s axles. You will use judgment in planning and selecting the appropriate kind, size and type of blocking and bracing materials. You will add, subtract, multiply and divide in computing sizes, weights and quantities of parts, materials and cargo. You will operate forklifts and assigned motor vehicles.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the work of a WG-08 Blocker & Bracer (Packer/FLO/MVO), as demonstrated by experience, working under normal supervision including I have the ability to perform the work of a WG-08 Blocker & Bracer, as demonstrated by experience, working independently including Reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings; Selecting the proper materials, taking the necessary measurements and cuts and installing blocking, bracing, wedges, skids, etc. to prevent shifting of the load and damage in transit; Determining load configuration utilizing weight, dimensions, size of conveyance; Making recommendations of required commercial equipment for transport of assets; and Operating forklifts.
