Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. Term Appointment NTE – Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6)years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees)applying for a term [select one] appointment will be appointed/converted into a temporary or term [select one] appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. When a current Army employee applies to a JOA opened for a temporary or term appointment, the action will be a conversion to a temporary or term appointment..(2) Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 3 years, if the candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of six years.
