This position is located in Melbourne, FL.
The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining smooth operation of classified multi-user computer systems, system administration, maintaining lab infrastructure, and supporting security procedures. The Virtual Simulation labs are primarily self-sustained environments that support pilot-in-the-loop cockpit simulators. They are comprised of an array of diverse hardware and software running on both Linux and Windows operating systems. The network includes both physical and virtual machines integrated with production and flight representative aircraft cockpit hardware. The lab supports a relatively small, close-knit team of 3-4 lab engineers, 12 full-time developers, and 10-12 other regular users. In addition to providing support for the users, the Lab Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and management of the lab’s information systems and cybersecurity compliance. This fast-paced work environment requires lab engineers with a diverse set of complementing skills, commitment to the small team dynamic, and a strong desire to learn new skills.
Essential Functions:
- Interacting with users to determine hardware/software requirements
- Quick reaction troubleshooting of lab and software developer issues
- Installation and configuration of hardware and operating systems and compilation of open-source software (OSS) from source code
- Developing and monitoring policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources
- STIG configuration, classified processing, and security procedures
- Installation, hardening, and maintaining computers in a Risk Management Framework (RMF) environment
- Interacting with and successfully utilizing boards of approval to maintain required security controls and configuration management
- Selected candidate will be a focal point with Cyber Security for all lab related processes and procedures.
- Ancillary duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluation of vendor products and providing recommendations to purchase hardware and software
- Backup and recovery to include triage of live, mission critical operating systems
- Maintaining system documentation
- Real time monitoring and tuning of laboratory assets
- Building of systems and computing asset management
- Detailed root-cause analysis of incidents and issues

This position can be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
Basic Qualifications:
- Systems Engineer: Bachelor of science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years of relevant experience or, a Master of science in a STEM discipline without need for relevant experience
- Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor of science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master of science degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of relevant experience
- Experience with systems administration of Windows and Linux systems
- Must have an active DoD Top Secret clearance with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- DoD 8570 Level 2 Certification, such as Security+ CE
- Certification in Linux system administration
- Familiarity with NAS and SAN technologies (NetApp SAN, EMC SAN, HP NAS)
- Knowledge of Virtualization technology, including ESXi, VMware, and Hyper-V
- Risk Management Framework (RMF) knowledge/experience
- Experience in STIG configuration, classified processing, and security procedures
- Knowledge of McAfee/Trellix ePO, Nessus, Splunk, WSUS, Delinea/Centrify, SCAP, POA&Ms, system audits, vulnerability scanning, and Risk Management Framework (RMF) system security package development
- Basic POSIX shell scripting / automation experience
