The CNC Machinist Level 3 is responsible for independently setting up and operating CNC machines to manufacture precision components that meet strict quality and tolerance requirements. This role requires strong blueprint reading skills, advanced setup capability, and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize machining processes on the shop floor.
What you'll do:
- Perform complex CNC machine setups, including tooling, fixturing, and work offsets
- Read and interpret advanced blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications
- Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for various materials
- Hold tight tolerances (±.0005") and maintain high-quality standards
- Conduct first-article inspections and in-process quality checks
- Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, CMM, etc.)
- Troubleshoot machining issues such as chatter, tool wear, and dimensional errors
- Reduce cycle times while maintaining safety and quality
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience (or equivalent advanced experience)
- Proficient in multi-axis machining (3-axis minimum; 4/5-axis preferred)
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading
- Demonstrated ability to perform full machine setups independently
- Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Use of hand tools, manual machines, saws, drill presses.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with aerospace, defense, or other high-precision manufacturing environments
- Quick turnaround Prototype Machining experience
- Familiarity in CAM systems (MasterCam, Fusion 360)
- Experience operating with Siemens Controls
- Experience with Fanuc and/or DN Solutions controls
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
