Senior Paralegal
Summary
Job Description
This role will serve as a Senior Paralegal assigned to the Constitutional and Specialized Tort Litigation section of the DOJ Civil Division. A successful senior paralegal candidate will be expected to manage a range of tasks within their support of the CSTL section to include organizing and maintaining case files, conducting searches in PACER and other sources, summarizing deposition transcripts, conducting privilege reviews, creating witness files, and reviewing and assessing case documents.
Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal and/or a Project Manager, performing the following tasks:
- Performs moderately complex case and legal research
- Summarizes deposition transcripts
- Reviews case related materials and identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation
- Writes preliminary drafts of memoranda and correspondence
- Input information into, and assist attorneys with the use of, CaseMap and TimeMap
- Create and maintain witness files
- Organize and maintain case files
- Conduct searches in PACER, as well as through other court filing sources
Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.
- Additionally at least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful.
- At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
- Requires a highly trustworthy employee to handle information and case details for highly sensitive series of cases.
- Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
- Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
- Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
- Role also requires hands-on familiarity with eDiscovery tools (e.g. Relativity).
- Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with various trial software (e.g.TrialDirector).
- Experience with CaseMap and TimeMap.
Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is between $31.69 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
