The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems in Buffalo, New York; an organization focused on development and production of state-of-the-art Simulation Systems solutions.
Our Mission Systems team is a leading innovator, developer, manufacturer, integrator, and supporter of a variety of advanced electronics for national security and non-defense applications. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Software Engineering department here in Amherst, NY. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where he/she will interact with other developers, other engineering disciplines, and our customers.
Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Design, develop, test, operate, and maintain software and firmware components and computing systems software to be applied to, and integrated with, engineering, scientific and manufacturing requirements
Apply the appropriate Software Engineering standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of such engineering applications and products such as laboratory simulation systems, and display systems
Interface with customers, suppliers, application users, and other technical and support personnel
Travel to customer site for installation of our software applications upon completion (dependent on program phase)
Responsible for the full software lifecycle: requirements, design, coding, testing, and integration.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years of related experience; OR a master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 3 Years experience; OR a PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 1 Year experience.
5 years experience with Linux/Unix Operating Systems
5 years experience with C/C++
5 years experience with git
U.S. citizenship
Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance. Must be able to maintain this level of clearance for continued employment.
Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 8 Years experience; OR a master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 6 Years experience; OR a PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 4 Years experience.
5 years experience with Linux/Unix Operating Systems
5 years experience with C/C++
5 years experience with git
Must have U.S. citizenship
Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance. Must be able to maintain this level of clearance for continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with RedHat Linux Operating Systems
Experience with Qt or other UI frameworks
Experience with JavaScript, Angular or other web frameworks
Experience with Python, Perl, or other scripting languages
Experience with concurrent/ parallel programming and algorithms, including with CUDA or similar (e.g. OpenCL)
Experience developing real-time software on both Linux and Windows.
Experience with Software Configuration Management tools including git/ GitHub and JIRA
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Able to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems
