Job Description
The EHS Manager will lead Environmental, Health, and Safety efforts at Castelion's Torrance, California headquarters, supporting engineering, manufacturing, integration, and test activities. This role is responsible for building, implementing, and managing EHS programs that ensure safe operations and regulatory compliance within a fast-paced aerospace development and manufacturing environment.
The EHS Manager will partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, and leadership teams to integrate safety and environmental stewardship into daily operations, facility planning, and hardware development activities. The ideal candidate brings experience in industrial safety, environmental compliance, hazard analysis, and regulatory programs within aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or other technically complex operational environments.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the EHS leader for the Torrance headquarters, responsible for developing and managing site EHS programs, systems, and policies to ensure safe operations and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to integrate EHS considerations into development activities, equipment use, laboratories, manufacturing cells, and facility operations.
- Develop and maintain risk management programs including hazard assessments, job hazard analyses, and safety reviews to identify and mitigate operational risks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable state and local regulations, including oversight of environmental programs such as hazardous materials management, hazardous waste, air emissions, and stormwater compliance.
- Implement and continuously improve safety programs through audits, inspections, training, and safety initiatives that strengthen operational discipline and safety culture.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis for safety or environmental events and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and maintain emergency response programs including evacuation procedures, drills, and emergency preparedness planning.
- Deliver EHS training and partner with employees and managers to reinforce safe work practices across engineering labs, manufacturing operations, and office environments.
- Support EHS initiatives across other Castelion locations as needed, including collaboration with manufacturing and test facilities.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience supporting EHS programs in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, laboratory, or other technically complex operational environments.
- Experience conducting hazard analyses and risk assessments in engineering, laboratory, or production environments.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and California state and local EHS regulations.
- Experience leading incident investigations and implementing corrective action programs.
- Hands-on experience developing and implementing EHS programs and safety training.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Professional certification such as CSP, CIH, or similar.
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing organizations.
- Experience supporting hardware development environments including laboratories, test operations, or integration facilities.
- Familiarity with EHS management systems such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Experience applying continuous improvement and risk-based safety methodologies.
