Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Mechanic

Position Responsibilities:

  • Possesses considerable knowledge of machinery in order to diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain and repair Aerospace Ground Equipment either in the field or in a shop environment, with little supervision. Performs service, maintenance, repair and overhaul in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Interfaces with New York Air National Guard (NYANG) and US Air Force (USAF) personnel on a daily basis.
  • Provides flight line services as required.
  • Performs work as specified on work orders or initiates work orders when required.
  • Ensures work performed is in accordance with established procedures and/or manufacturer's specifications.
  • Routinely overhauls, repairs or maintains gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Uses diagnostic equipment and procedures to diagnose and correct equipment faults.
  • Inspects lift equipment and determines safe operability prior to issue.
  • Operates shop equipment including load banks, welders, compressors, presses and nitrogen charging units.
  • Performs generator set inspections and maintenance as required.
  • Provides serviceable equipment to NYANG or USAF as requested.
  • Services aircraft latrines, empties urinals.
  • Documents work performed, status of equipment, maintains records and generates reports as required.
  • Recommends parts resupply to the AGE Mechanic Lead.
  • Sets example of professional work ethic and behavior. Provides direction and communications, verbally and in writing to ensure continuity of operations during and between shifts.
  • Lift, move and/or install parts, assemblies or equipment up to the safety regulation maximum. May perform work outside under severe weather conditions.
  • Works rotating shifts as required 24 hours/day.
  • Performs duties in support of Operations Division metrics (as provided by supervisor).
  • Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position's work activities.
  • Works to achieve goals and contractual commitments.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe work area.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  • Complies with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • A minimum of four years of experience working with a combination of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical/electronic and hydraulic systems

Expected Skills and Competencies:

  • Complies with applicable safety, environment, health, and waste management policies and procedure.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Word; ability to accurately document changes to work orders and inventory on a computer-based system.

Preferred

  • Two years technical school or similar military training is highly desirable.

Physical and/or Other Requirements :

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
  • Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
