The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Job Overview
Performs a variety of technical procedures such as preparing routine solutions and laboratory reagents. Makes and records observations; performs simple calculations; and collects and prepares data for evaluation. Conducts laboratory support functions such as stocking and distributing supplies and equipment; arranging and dismantling apparatus; and collecting, washing, and storing glassware. Performs technical and record keeping duties in conformance with company and regulatory compliance policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements. Performs technical procedures in one or more of the following areas: Production, Research and Development, Quality Control/Assurance and Environmental Health & Safety.
Job Responsibilities
Preparation of various laboratory samples including qualitative/quantitative solutions
Perform sampling of chemicals from the field for acceptance & surveillance testing
Perform basic along with complex In-Process and Analytical testing in the Quality Control Laboratory to support both production and research departments with minimum oversight
Prepare summarized technical reports and submit them to the area supervisor or lead
Ability to operate, calibrate and troubleshoot analytical laboratory instrumentation
Able to provide technical guidance to develop or refine laboratory procedures and protocols
Basic Qualifications Laboratory Technician 4
High School Diploma or an Associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. chemistry, physical, mechanical)
A combination of 6 or more years of additional education and/or related industry experience
Familiar and proficient with the following analytical testing techniques and instrumentation:
Karl Fisher moisture determination
pH
Viscosity
Bomb Calorimeter
Specific Gravity
Total Solids
Acid/Base Titration (colorimetric/potentiometric) including Assay by Titration
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
Ability to multi-task
Must be able to work overtime
Must be a US citizen
Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate company vehicles

Associate’s Degree or higher in chemistry or physical science
8 or more years of additional education and/or related industry experience
Demonstrated advanced technical proficiency with laboratory equipment and techniques
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) specific to routine laboratory techniques
Perform on the job analytical training tasks for Laboratory Technicians 2/3
Continuous Improvement suggestions with an industry safety mindset
General understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (e.g. AS9100/ISO9001)
This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor
Primary Level Salary Range: $63,500.00 - $105,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
