You will serve as a SHIP MECHANICAL & PIPING SYSTEMS INSPECTOR LEADER in the Nonnuclear Inspection Division (Code 133), of the Quality Assurance Office (Code 130) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major duties

You will perform mechanical piping and sound isolation inspections on nuclear submarines and nuclear /nonnuclear surface ships. You will perform arrival and pre-inspections of systems/components to determine existing conditions (deficiencies/discrepancies) prior to the start of an overhaul. You will perform surveillances and audits on multiple ships systems, components, and processes in accordance with non-nuclear inspection division’s surveillance plan. You will initiate work stoppage/deficiency from when further work would cover a defect or endanger personnel or equipment. You will assure effective use of the team by, passing on instructions received from the supervisor to initiate the work and follow instruction received are to complete assignments to achieve the mission goals.

Qualification

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Inspections are conducted on major systems and include: propulsion turbines, reduction gears, main steam systems, main sea water systems, main lube oil systems, auxiliary steam systems, feed and condensate systems, gland seal and exhaust systems, high pressure steam drain systems, lube oil systems, refrigeration plants, air condition plants, high pressure and low pressure air systems, steam distilling systems, hydraulic systems, auxiliary sea water systems, fuel oil and compensating water systems, steering and diving systems, propellers and shafting, torpedo tubes, etc. Determining overall inspection needs, checkpoints, prepare procedures and/or checklist for quality assurance. Performing in-process inspections, at various checkpoints during the removal, disassembly, repair, assembly and installation of systems and components/equipment. Conducting a pre-test/final, and physical site inspections. Accounting for the receipt, maintenance, storage, and retrieval of assigned ship/project records during projects availability. Demonstrating knowledge of mechanical and piping systems, SUBSAFE, ReEnrtry, Surveillance, and Controlled Assembly.
