The mission of the 47th Medical Group at Laughlin Air Force Base is to support the 47th Flying Training Wing’s medical, dental and aeromedical needs in support of Laughlin’s Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training mission. The medical group is responsible for the health care of more than 3,400 Department of Defense (DoD) beneficiaries and ensuring the medical readiness mission for wartime and worldwide contingencies.

About the Position: The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) provides extensive follow-up and preventative health care, planning intervention and evaluation of patients care methods for a variety of pediatric and related health issues and problems. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Major duties
Provide independent and collaborative pediatric/adolescent specialty, comprehensive and therapeutic health care services, integrating the art and science of pediatric/adolescent nursing into medical practice. Responsible for the initiation, implementation, and supervision of treatment plans and education for wellness, acute, non-acute, and chronic conditions Evaluates total health care needs of patients and develops plans to meet those needs, to include chronic care management when indicated Performs minor diagnostic procedures, such as punch biopsies, mole removal, wart removal, needle aspiration for culture, and shave biopsies Participates with consulting physician when indicated in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plan; assists in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to delivery of health care services. Delivers lactation care within accepted standards of the specialty of practice. Provides postpartum breastfeeding consultations in clinic or by telephone consultation.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. -- DEGREE FROM A FOREIGN NURSING SCHOOL: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. -- LICENSURE: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position - Advance Practice Nursing (Pediatrics) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: EXERIENCE: At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes but is not limited to performing or requesting special screening, developmental tests and laboratory tests, and interpret the tests; providing preventive care to healthy individuals including guidance in nutrition, common illnesses, child growth and development; assessing growth parameters to provide preventative anticipatory care; making diagnoses and in choosing, initiating and modifying selected therapies. **NOTE: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.**
