Job summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) Paramedic in the Army Emergency Medical Service (EMS). Paramedics will perform both basic and advanced life support emergency medical treatment to provide the most extensive pre- hospital care.
Major duties
Responds to the site of accidents or other emergencies involving injury, illness, or potential environmental risks. Assesses condition of patient(s) and selects from a variety of protocols one or several that are deemed appropriate under the given circumstances and based on the paramedics’ evaluation. Triages patients to determine which patients are treated and transported first and makes notifications to inform the appropriate medical facility ER of a possible Mass Casualty Incident (MCI). Recognizes, stabilizes, and treats a wide variety of medical emergencies, (i.e., heart attacks, state of hydration, strokes, environmental [heat exhaustion, heat stroke, etc.], burns [thermal, radiation, and electrical], suicidal patients, etc.) Maintains Emergency Vehicles (EV) readiness and inspects vehicles for repairs. Operates EV safely and adheres to traffic ordinances and regulations pertaining to the operation of the EV.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; (2) operating a patient transport vehicle; (3) AND providing advanced life support to patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
