Job summary

This position is located in the Pentagon Heating & Refrigeration Plant under the Washington Headquarters Services, Facilities Services Directorate, Facilities Operations Services Division, and Facility Operations Group, Heating and Refrigeration Plant. The HRP runs on a 7- day, 2 - shift plan. The plant is responsible for the production of steam, chilled water, the high and medium voltage campus electrical distribution of municipal water, and natural gas, as well as the disposal of sewage.

Major duties

This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Section 1109 of FY 2020 NDAA; P.L. 116-92 and Section 9905 of Title 5, U.S.C. (Section 9905 of Title 5, U.S.C.) Typical work assignments may include, but is not limited to the following: 1. Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of industrial electrical and electronic systems and equipment associated with the generation and distribution of utilities. 2. Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of primary and secondary distribution systems such as blast protection systems, electromagnetic pulse filters, ground fault and sensing circuits. 3. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high voltage electrical generation and distribution equipment and controls.

Qualification

For qualifications determinations, it is recommended that applicants include their months and hours worked per week for each employment listed on their resume. Your background must demonstrate a full range of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of industrial electrical and electronic systems and equipment associated with the generation and distribution of utilities, primary and secondary distribution systems such as blast protection systems, electromagnetic pulse filters, ground fault sensing circuits. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high voltage electrical generation and distribution equipment and controls associated with a Class A power plant. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is The Ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements: Knowledge of electrical equipment. Ability to use and maintain hand tools (electrical work) Ability to use electrical drawings Knowledge of troubleshooting (electrical) PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Moderately heavy physical effort is exerted while working aloft on poles, at ground level and in ground trenches or manholes; requiring bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods of time. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body are needed for repairing, installing and testing electrical equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed outside, above or below ground in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment. The environment is hazardous with high noise levels from live electrical equipment and moving parts on the engines and generators. in working with high voltages, there is a chance of electrical shocks, burns and cuts and bruises from power hand and power electrical tools.
