You will serve as a PROJECT SUPPORT ENGINEER (MAINTENANCE) in the Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center - Detachment Bahrain (FDRMC-Det Bahrain), Engineering Department, Code B220, Bahrain Island, Bahrain. Workweek: Sunday - Thursday with Sunday Premium pay.

Major duties

You will function as the Maintenance Team (MT) Project Support Engineer for the assigned ships. You will be responsible in conducting independent engineering studies, research, and analysis, etc. for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems or in support of short and long-term engineering projects on assigned ships. You will initiate/track/coordinate responses to adjudicate non-conformances and/or engineering service requests ensuring timely and cost-wise responses. You will accomplish and/or ensure the timely technical review of contractor work specifications ensuring the requirements of tasking documents are met, naval standards are invoked, and final acceptance testing will validate work performed. You will assess and apply knowledge of engineering theories, principles, and practices to technically assess, evaluate, and provide recommendations for contractor change proposals, growth and new work. You will provide coordination for the ship availability Technical Closeout document to ensure all technical related documents have been properly answered and/or adjudicated.

Qualification

In addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Please note that the hiring manger wanted 'three of the 5 given specialized experience' to meet the qualification requirement of this position. Of that the first one is required and at least two of the other ones identified in the list are required. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Conducting investigations to identify root causes and develop effective solutions for complex engineering problems; AND 2. Providing technical oversight and quality assurance for contractor work to ensure adherence to engineering standards and technical requirements; AND/OR 3. Leading and coordinating engineering teams to ensure projects and tasks are completed on time and in accordance with required specifications; AND/OR 4. Serving as the primary engineering point of contact for managing non- conformances, waivers, and deviations; AND/OR 5. Collaborating and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot and restore shipboard equipment. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 1. The incumbent is required to perform the above duties at a variety of job sites within the commuting area. It is the incumbent's responsibility to transport himself expeditiously between job sites in the local area of the permanent duty station with reimbursement costs in accordance with the Joint Travel Regulations. This position requires the incumbent to perform temporary duty travel approximately 10% of the time. Travel may be on short notice and/or for extended periods of time. 2. This is an EMERGENCY-ESSENTIAL position. In the event of a crisis situation or war, the incumbent must continue to perform assigned duties to support mission requirements until relieved by proper authority. Incumbent must sign DD Form 2365 and must be removed from military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available. 3. Required to obtain and maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification via command sponsored CPR training and annual refresher training during working hours. Pre-employment physical is required. 4. Required to satisfactory complete the CNRMC workforce development training. 5. Must be able to satisfactorily complete all Job Certifications requirements.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above) OR Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Travel is dependent upon position description and availability of funding. 18-months unaccompanied or 24-months accompanied (if accompanied, DEA must be requested and approved).
